Podium Waterproofing

Podiums generally being larger in area, casting is done in several phases. Hence lot of cold joints will be there. There will be lot of cracks on the slab and hence they need to be treated. The Podium is subjected to dynamic loading due to vehicular movements, hence needs more flexible coating. Liquid Membrane system is more appropriate for this application. Every podium is unique in its nature.

Hence the waterproofing system shall be designed to suit the conditions. The expansion joints if existing shall be treated accordingly. The joints between the podium and the vertical structure of the building shall be treated. Any exposed metal rods shall be cut and treated. Any pipe penetrations across the podium need to be treated. The liquid membrane system needs protection, otherwise it can get punctured. It is generally recommended to protect the coating with a base coat of 10 to 15 mm before other rendering is done over it.
